Potty Update

The excitement of the potty has worn off. He hasn't asked to get on it in a couple weeks. Before he wanted up there every opportunity he got and didn't want to get down. When he was going he wanted all his clothes off, so I'm glad he isn't interested anymore, because it was a pain redressing him :)

Choo Choo's Revisited

Here is another picture from the weekend of Zack playing with his choo choo's. I think half my pictures are of him playing with his trains. I made the mistake of showing him his plastic train table with built in roads/track has a cover and we can build the wooden track on it. Now he wants to build and destroy it all the time.

Coming or Going???

Sunday it started snowing outside and Ryan and I each took a turn going outside to get some pictures of the snow. Zack was ready for his turn outside too. He put on my boots, exclaimed "I did it!" and proceded to walk around the house trying to convince one of us to take him outside.

You asked for it!

These are for you Jaidean! I'm sure there are more than you ever wanted to see, but I couldn't stop myself! These are pictures of Zack's nursery. Ryan keeps talking about moving him to the bigger bedroom and to a big boy bed. I think Ryan has forgot how much he began to hate this project midway through it. I can't believe he is ready to tackle another room. I don't think I can have plain walls after I've seen what Ryan is capable of. I love this room and I'm not ready for Zack to grow up. I'm sure the transition will be easier on me after I go shopping at Pottery Barn Kids and fall in love with a bedding set again :)

My parents were selling their house and made me take my old Cabbage Patch Kids home at Christmas. I just got them cleaned up so Zack could play with them. He loves his babies, much to Ryan's dislike. Here are some pictures of Zack feeding Marlo Fern and playing doctor with Daniella Jenetta. Yes I remember my dolls names!! I have a boy too, but he prefers the girls.

Our Weekend

We stayed home this weekend. This is our 3rd weekend in a row at home, very unusual for us. We are usually off visiting someone or have something going on on the weekends. We now have one less play to visit since my parents are spending their first winter in Florida, had to throw in a little guilt trip. We miss you!!

Friday night we went out to eat at a local Mexican restaurant. Ryan and I ate there pretty much every Friday night while I was pregnant with Zack. It always had more empty tables then full, but now the secret is out and the place is always packed. While we were eating, Zack's previous daycare provider, Ms. Connie, came in. He left her care at the end of October when he was turning 18 months to start at a center. Ms. Connie was a second mom to him and we were all so sad when it was time for him to graduate. Zack had a very hard adjustment to the center. It took about six weeks before I could leave without him bawling. It broke my heart and was ready to smuggle him back into Ms. Connie's. So, Ms. Connie came in and was talking to us and Zack just stared at her, like what are you doing outside your house? As we were leaving we went to her table and Zack went to her and gave her a big hug and kiss. It was so good to see you again Connie. We miss you and will come visit the next time I have a day off.

Saturday we met some friends in Indianapolis and did some shopping. Zack did great, sat in the stroller all day and didn't whine or try to get up, even without a nap. We didn't buy too much, but we did get a Bears cap for Zack. Ryan wanted to get an Urlacher jersey, but settled for the hat.

Today I did a little photo shoot with Zack. I will be posting pictures from it soon. I belong to a photography message board and every week we have a challenge. This week's challenge is "winter." We don't have much snow on the ground, so I couldn't take pics of Zack playing in the snow, so I decided I would go to a park with a pond and take some pictures of the ice. I didn't realize how cold it was when I left the house. I parked on the opposite side from the pond. The wind was whipping and the car thermometer said 14 degrees. I decided to take the walking trail and had better get some damn good pictures to make it worth it. By the time I got back to the car I was half frozen and none of the pictures did much for me. Everything is dead and ugly. I guess that is winter though. It did start snowing this afternoon, so hopefully we'll get some accumulation and I'll be able to find something picture worthy with snow because dead grass sure isn't pretty.
Zack is finally starting to get into his books and loves looking at the pictures. He normally doesn't stop moving long enough to read them except before bedtime. These were taken Saturday morning.

Can you kick your legs like the donkey? I can do it!

"I did it" has became Zack's favorite phrase and I credit it to this book. I have a good example from today that I'll share later this week.

Happy Anniversary to me

Eight years ago today I was a young naive girl just out of college starting my first real job. I was so excited to make more than $5.50 an hour that I didn't care what the job entailed. I had never heard of Section 8 low income housing and could never have imagined some of the characters that I would soon meet. I was now a property manager and had a business card! I always wanted my very own business cards. I remember calling my parents soon after I began. I thanked them for a house and a yard and most importantly for being married and happy. I had no idea this other world existed.

Eight years later, I am still sitting at the same desk much wiser to the world and the people in it. My job has its good and bad days, but overall I enjoy what I do and I like to think that I am making a difference in lives that are less fortunate than mine.

Here is a picture of my sweet baby that I get to come home to every night. I don't mind visiting the less fortunate world 40 hours a week, but I'm very grateful that I get to go home every night to my house, yard and loving family.

Choo Choo's

Here are a few pictures from the weekend of Zack playing with his choo choo trains. He loves playing with his train table Santa gave him for Christmas and mommy loves it because I don't have to keep rebuilding track as he tears it apart.

They grow so fast!

I came across this video from when Zack was learning to walk and thought I would share it here. This was taken when he was about 11 1/2 months old (he is now 20 months.) I think I love this video so much because it reminds me of myself on many a weekend night! Although they are few and far between anymore. Ryan gets the credit for the video.

Amazing!!! I'm speechless! I grew up in northwest Indiana - Bears country and now live in north central Indiana - Colts country. I didn't think in a million years that it would happen. GO BEARS!!!

Let's go Bears!

The Bears game is just starting... no fumbles! Zack is getting good at holding onto the ball. He loves playing football with daddy and getting tackled.

Let it Snow

We didn't do too much this weekend. We hung around the house and I cleaned out our storage closet in the basement. We couldn't walk in it before and now there is nothing on the floor and even empty space on the shelves!

It snowed during the night. We were expecting 2-4 inches and didn't even get enough to cover the grass. Ryan shoveled the driveway and made a pile for Zack to play in. This was the first time Zack played in snow. He couldn't wait to get outside. He loved the snowballs, but kept wanting to make baskets with them. Hopefully we'll get enough snow next time to get his sled down from the attic.

Today is my husband's birthday. Hop-pee is what Zack says for happy birthday. Zack was so excited last night to celebrate Daddy's birthday that he couldn't sleep. He woke up about every hour crying and since he has a cold I got up to soothe him back to sleep each time. It has probably been over a year since I've had to get up with him at night. He woke up this morning at 6:15 on the complete wrong side of the crib, moody. He cried for anything and everything. He was better this afternoon after a much needed nap. Hopefully we have a quite night tonight and our happy, easy going boy back tomorrow.

We ordered pizza and stayed home tonight to celebrate Ryan's birthday. We had planned on going out for dinner, but figured Zack needed to get to bed extra early tonight and he still wasn't in the best of moods. Happy birthday Ryno, I love you!

Here are some pictures of Ryan opening his presents from Zack.

Ryan (Ryno) has been dropping not so subtle hints about a rhino headcover for a while now. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that Tiger Woods uses a tiger headcover.

Zack is feeling a little better today. No fever at least, but we went through plenty of kleenex wiping his never ending running nose. He woke up at 6:30 this morning, which is very unlike him. I tried to get him back to sleep, but that wasn't happening. I did manage to give him some cold medicine today - twice! Its amazing what a boy will do for some M&Ms!

We are still working on going on the potty chair. We try 1- 2 times a day and he goes about every other day, usually while holding himself and spraying all over. I bought him a step stool last week and the only way to get him off the potty chair is to tell him he can wash his hands. He loves standing on the step stool and playing in the water.

I took Zack shopping today. We were at Kohl's buying bath towels for the lake. I had towels piled high on top of the stoller and Zack was playing with my cell phone. I lady with an 8'ish year old boy stopped me. She said that her son had said, look Mom that baby has a Razr, he couldn't believe a baby would have a Razr as a toy. Whatever it takes to keep him quite and in the stroller!

No pictures tonight. I tried to get Zack to play in front of the window this morning and he wasn't cooperating. I'm hoping we'll get some snow this week and he'll be able to play in it for the first time.

Zack is sick

Poor little man. He has had a bad cough and a runny for a couple days and woke up today from his nap with a 102 temp. It has been going around daycare and finally caught up to him. It hasn't slowed him down though, I don't think anything does. We can't say that the medicine is helping because it end up all over his clothes. We have had to fight him the last couple of days to get medicine in his mouth and he keeps spitting it out.

I did manage to get some pictures this morning of him playing with his dump truck. This was my first real opportunity to play with the camera during the day with natural light. These are by far the best I've taken without flash.

Workin it

Work is really cutting into my blogging! I thought I'd be able to get at least one cute picture of Zack a night to post, but he doesn't stay involved in one activity long enough. Maybe I should just post pictures of the apartment we took possession of today at work - coke on the ceilings and walls, cheese smeared on the walls, an unidentified substance all over the carpet, soiled underwear on the kitchen floor, all kinds of drywall damage, the nastiest tile floors/carpet/walls you've ever seen, toilet tank lid missing, broken glass everywhere and the list goes on. Pictures anyone, I've got em? Needless to say, my maintenance men are not happy and there is no blaming the mess on the kids. This was a single 20 something female with mental problems. An elderly neighbor complained to me about her a month ago because she offered him sexual favors in exchange for a pack of cigarettes. I guess smoking is a tough addiction to break!
Maybe I should rename my blog, "Stories of the Slumlord." I could write a book over the past eight years.

Here is a picture of Zack playing in his ball pit. It is far from a great or even a just ah'ight for me dog picture, but doesn't it scream future leftie pitcher? Look at that focus

It's Potty Time!

Yesterday I decided to introduce Zack to the potty seat. He said he had to go potty, so I put the small seat on the toilet, took off his diaper, pulled up the step stool and he was king of the thrown. He sat there for at least ten minutes just playing with the toilet paper and trying to touch the water, but not producing any results. I made him get down and he was very upset with me. When it was time to brush his teeth, he immediately ran into the bathroom and jumped up on his thrown.

Tonight he wanted to potty again, so before his bath I sat him on the seat and he actually pottied!!! I couldn't believe it. My son, who has fought me at every diaper change and loves having dirty diapers is actually getting the concept of the toilet. I thought he'd be a late trainer, but maybe his dislike for diaper changes will actually push him into underpants. I'm sure we have a long road and I am probably creating a monster starting this soon, but maybe this will work.

Here is a picture of my big boy from last night after getting his teeth brushed.

Practice, Practice, Practice

My lense arrived yesterday, so I have been using every available second to play with it. Wow, I have a lot to learn. I don't know how other (aspiring) photographers with the same camera as me can use it without the flash. Everything is blurry! I must figure this out soon. I'm hoping that I'll look back on this entry in a month or two and laugh, because I've got it all figured out. I also hope that there will be a huge improvement in the quality of pictures in the near future and someday I'll be able to start a business.

Here are a few recent pics with the new camera.
Zack had just woken up from his nap as I was getting the lense attached to the camera. This was my very first picture.
This was Zack this morning during breakfast eating his favorite food, an aah-pull (apple).

One more, I was trying to get Zack to lay down for a nap and Ryan decided to blast Zack's favorite song on the stereo, Black Horse and a Cherry Tree. You should here him sing the no, no, no, no's - too cute! Zack immediately started dancing and running around like a wild man.

Working out the kinks

I can't wait any longer to start posting pictures. I thought I'd show off a few recent family pictures to see if I have this blogging thing down. Here are some pics that I took over Christmas.

Zack on Christmas day. He is getting too big.

Zack and Ryan on Christmas Eve. I love his little cheesy smile.

My Mom holding Zack and my niece Lexi. Zack got jealous when grandma was holding someone other than him.

Alright, I need to get to bed and rested up before my big day tomorrow. Hopefully the FedEx man will arrive bright and early.

Ready, set, not quite...

My camera arrived today, yeah! But, I'm still waiting on the lens, boo! No one was home to sign for it, so I will be staying close to home tomorrow. My new camera is sitting on the kitchen counter, useless, taunting me right now. I also received my 6 million dollar Crumpler camera bag today. I'd better be able to figure out this camera or my wonderful, supportive husband will kill me :)

Hurry up FedEx man!

Ok, this is my first blog post. I am waiting for my new camera, Nikon D50, and lense, 50mm 1.8, to arrive so I can start sharing pictures. I can't wait to start playing with them. I hope I'm not too overwhelmed.
