Out and About

We took Zack out of daycare while I'm on maternity leave. Yesterday in the mail Zack got a large envelope from his teacher. Inside was a large homemade Halloween/We Miss You card from his class, three Halloween/fall art project that the class is doing and the sweetest letter from his teacher. It instantly brought tears to my eyes. Zack is invited back for the Halloween party tomorrow morning and he can't wait to see his friends again.

I am having a major debate with myself on if I should dress Addison for the Halloween party in a Baby's 1st Halloween shirt or a pink outfit. She looks so much cuter in pink than orange, but it is Halloween. I know, I worry about the dumbest things, but I can't help it.

I ventured out by myself this morning for the first time with the kids. We went to WalMart for treats for Zack's class and a few other things. Zack did so much better than the Target trip last week. He stayed in the cart the entire time and never tried to get up. He didn't knock any displays over. It was wonderful. I may actually get out of the house some this winter. I'm not sure if he has graduated to a trip to the mall yet though. I am starting to get shopping withdrawls, so I may have to find out soon.
Speaking of the mall - I am wearing my pre-pregnancy jeans today and they button! I am 10 pounds over my pre-pregnancy weight and I know I still have some draining to do. Hopefully I'll be back to normal soon.

Zack is actually doing much better with the baby and jealousy issues. He is the Zack of old again. He has absolutely no interest in potty training now though. I need to get serious with him again soon. My goal is to send him back to daycare with no diapers.

Still some jealousy when daddy is holding Addison.
Has anyone seen Zack. I can't find him anywhere. Zackerdoo, where are you???

Sammy Dog

My parents stayed at our house with Zack while I was in the hospital. Mom said that she found our dog, Sammy, sleeping on Zack's bed one morning. She asked me if he normally sleeps there. Sammy usually avoids Zack like the plague, so I was shocked that he chose to sleep next to him. He normally sleeps on the floor next to my side of the bed. I figured he just decided to protect Zack while there were strangers in the house.

Well, since we've brought Addison home I have shewed him off of Zack's bed twice. Addison's bassinet is in our room, so he must think four is a crowd and decided to find new, more comfortable, sleeping quarters. I don't know how to prevent him from getting on Zack's bed. I put random things on the couch cushions at night and when we're away to keep him down and we keep our bedroom door closed when we're gone, but I can't do anything to Zack's bed or door while he is sleeping. I'm sure Zack loves his new roommate, but I don't want him to have a hairy stinky bed.

Yesterday I washed Zack's bed sheets and found Sammy using Zack's beloved Ruff-Ruff as a pillow. Did I mention Sammy normally runs away when Zack comes around?

Sleepy Baby

Addison once again slept the day away. Zack has always been a great sleeper and I always figured pay backs would get me and number two being a horrible sleeper. I am so glad that I was wrong and I so hope I'm not jinxing myself. I hope she doesn't get her days and nights confused, but so far she sleeps through both of them.

Family of Four

We are starting to get settled in at home. Addison has been a dream baby. She eats, sleeps, poops and never cries. I'm sure things will change as she gets older though. Zack has been pretty good with her, but has been acting up a little bit. I've seen more tantrums in the last two days then I've seen in the past 2 1/2 years. Hopefully he'll adjust soon and I'll be able to do more with him once I start feeling a little better. My mom has helped me the last couple of days and tomorrow will be my first day on my own.

Addison had her first outing today. I decided to take advantage of my mom and have her chauffeur us around. I'm taking Tylenol with codeine and I'm not supposed to drive, plus I'm still a little sore and need both hands to support my bottom. We took Zack to get a haircut and then went to Target for a few things. The trip ended when Zack pulled down a shelf full of Halloween candy while trying to climb up to the kind he wanted.

I've got a lot of pictures to share from the past five days, so I'll start with the hospital pictures.

This is me on the laptop between contractions before they got too strong and close together. It helped to keep my mind off of the pain.

Welcome to the world Addison. Notice how bruised her ear is from the forceps, ouch!!

Addison had to spend 2 1/2 days in NICU because she was grunting instead of crying after her birth. Luckily her tests came back negative for an infection and was able to come home when I was released. This is how we found her the morning after she was born. The IV in her head fell out later that day and I think the nurses poked her in every available vein trying to get it inserted again with no luck. She has bruises all over her hands. The doctor finally got it inserted using a magnifying glass head gear thing.

This was the first I was able to hold her except when she was laid on my chest right after her birth.

Welcome Home Addison

Addison and I got to come home together today. Her tests came back negative and we checked out at about 1:30. Last night in the hospital she was up for hours at a time crying. She slept all afternoon once home, so we are a little worried about how tonight will go. I hope Zack will be able to sleep through the night feedings and crying.

My parents took Zack to my niece's 3rd birthday party today, so Ryan and I had some time to take a nap. He was very excited when he got home. I'll post some pictures soon.

New Roommate

The NICU doctor let Addison room in with me tonight. They will come get her at 3:30 AM for antibiotics and then bring her back again. We get to miss the 4 AM feeding, which is a nice bonus. We still have to wait to get her blood test results back tomorrow, but she seems to be completely healthy. As long as the results are negative we should be able to go home together tomorrow.

Zack spent six days in NICU and they made us room in together before we could take him home too, but I had already been released from the hospital so they have a separate wing for parents that is rarely used that we had to spend the night in. The wing was scary. It was dark and no one was around. It felt like we were in the middle of a horror movie and we just knew the killer was coming to get us. Needless to say, I am so so happy that we are in post-partum still and that the doctor must think the results will be negative and she should be released tomorrow.

We brought her to my room at around 6 PM and my parents brought Zack at about 7 PM, so the kids finally got to meet. Zack was pretty good with her and gave her lots of hugs and kisses. He sang her the ABC song and gave her a pink caterpillar stuffed animal that he had picked out. He kept saying she is a such a cutie. I don't know where he picked that up, but it was cute. He also lifted up my shirt and thought Addison was still inside my belly. He said there are two Addisons and was pulling on my belly and trying to get the second Addison out.

The NICU doctor said this morning that Addison's head is larger than the rest of her body and it was time for her to get out. It was a good thing that I was induced.

I also want to say congratulations to our friends Tammi and Tony and big sister Abi who welcomed Addison's birthday twin Avri into the world on 10/19 also. Zack and Abi were born one day apart and now Addie and Avri have the same birthday. I can't wait to meet her!

Here are a couple unedited pictures of little miss Addison. Hopefully she'll be able to get rid of her IV tomorrow. Thankfully Zack didn't mess with it too much. We tried to keep it hidden under her clothes.

Welcome Addison Marie

Addison is finally in our arms. She of course couldn't come without some drama. They started the pitosin at 9 AM on Thursday and she finally arrived at 1:22 AM on Friday, 10/19.

We had a tornado watch at 9:30 PM Thursday and they made everyone evacuate the rooms, so they had to wheel my bed, IV and the monitors into the hall along with all the other laboring women. Luckily the watch only lasted 45 minutes. But it happened right as she was starting to make some progress and getting closer to pushing. Luckily I already had my epidural, so I wasn't in pain in the hall. I started pushing at midnight.

Back in the room, I had an 101 degree fever and her heart rate started dropping in the birth canal, so the doctor said we need to get her out now or would end up with a c-section if she stays in too long. He said I could choose forceps or a vacuum and with the nurse's help went with the forceps. They said they are easier on the baby but harder on the mom with tearing. Being the selfless person that I am I decided to sacrifice myself .

She weighed 7 pounds even and is 20 inches long. Her ear is bruised and she has a scratch along her face from the forceps. As they were cleaning her up she was grunting instead of crying, which is a sign of respiratory infection. They called NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) who took her and ran a chest x-ray and blood work. It was about 4:30 AM when we were finally able to go see her and get an update. The x-ray came back fine, but we have to wait until Sunday to find out the blood test results. She is still in NICU. They took her off the oxygen today and she is starting to feed on her own now. They are giving her antibiotics through an IV in case she does have an infection because the infection will have to be treated for 7 days before she can be released. They don't want to wait until Sunday to get the results and then start the treatment or take the chance of her getting sick between now and then.

My parents brought Zack this morning and I had my IV in my hand still. A nurse gave him some stickers and he put them all around my IV and didn't keep any for himself. So sweet. Zack did get to see his sister through the NICU window this evening but kids aren't allowed inside, so they haven't met in person yet. He also called the elevator the alligator and kept telling me about riding on the alligator. I was a little confused until mom explained it to me.

Addison looks just like Zack did when he was born and they both look like Grandpa Ronnie - big dimple in the chin and the natural frown. Lets hope he didn't pass on the cataracts too. I'm anxious to get home and compare pictures. I told the nurse that I'd like to stay until Sunday, since that will be the earliest that Addie will be released. Hopefully we will get to go home together on Sunday.

Here she is, Addison Marie. This was taken with Ryan's camera phone. I'll get the pictures off of my camera when I get home.

Delay of Game

I went to the doctor this morning. They did an ultrasound and said the baby weighs 6 pds 13 oz and looks healthy. The tech said she'd probably be born right around 7 pds. She passed the non-stress test. Then the doctor came in and had me recap when we scheduled the induction. He thought it was Thursday not Wednesday because he already has a surgery scheduled for tomorrow, so he had a nurse call the hospital and they pushed me back to Thursday at 7 AM. I'm bummed, but some how I knew this would happen.

A good friend's daughter was born the day after Zack and we have compared notes from pregnancy to toddler hood. We were also both trying for months to get pregnant with our second babies and it happened the same month, so we have been comparing notes the second time around too. Tammi is scheduled for a c-section on Friday and I just knew that Addison would have to wait for her friend Avri to be born. I am excited to have our second babies a day apart like we did with our oldest kids. No more delays though Princess Addison! Thursday you are officially evicted from my belly. It is really strange how things work out I guess. It is just meant to be.

Zack's daycare teacher told me this morning that on Monday everyone kept asking him when Addison was coming and he would answer 5. They were all hoping that something would happen at 5:00 on Monday. I'd either deliver the baby or I'd go into labor, but no such luck.

Zack had his first school pictures today. My pregnant brain thought they were yesterday, so I had him all dressed up on Monday morning, dropped him off and thought it was strange that the other kids didn't have nice clothes on. It later hit me that Tuesday is picture day and not Monday. So I had to dig out another picture worthy outfit for today. They also had chili for lunch today and his shirt was covered in it. Luckily the pictures were in the morning, but it is going to take some scrubbing and a couple of washes to get the stains out. I just knew they would have a messy lunch, especially in nice clothes two days in a row.

Sorry, but I am on a photo strike until get a picture of my baby girl.

Third and Final Round

I went to the doctor this morning. I go back tomorrow for another biophysical profile (ultrasound) at 11:15. Wednesday morning I check into the hospital at 7 AM (for the 3rd time) for another shot at an induction. I am not leaving without a baby this time!

I was pleasantly surprised when the doctor brought up inducing me again at the beginning of my appointment. I had fully expected him to say, well it didn't work last week and the baby responded fine to the contractions, so we'll just wait another week. I would have killed him.

I'm still only 1 cm dilated, the same as last week, and I haven't gained any weight. I'm anxious for the ultrasound to see if the baby has grown since the last time they took her measurements about 2 1/2 weeks ago.

Zack was born on 5/17 at 5:17 PM. I am hoping that Addison will be born on 10/17 at 10:17 AM, not PM. I probably shouldn't hope too hard, because the only way 10:17 AM would happen is with a c-section and I want to stay away from that option. It is pretty cool that the kids will be exactly 2 years and 5 months apart, if things go as planned that is.

Stay tuned! We will hopefully have a happy ending very soon.

Fully Baked

Today is my due date and so far no baby. I have been having contractions (I think) about even 15 minutes, but I don't want to get too excited just yet. We did some shoe shopping for Zack this morning and then went to Target for a few odds and ends. I'm trying to keep busy and my mind off of the baby and shopping is always the best distraction.

Yesterday I took Zack up to the lake for a few hours for some pumpkin painting and a chili cook off. I got lots of advice on how to get the baby out; castrol oil, White Castle sliders, a motorcycle ride, sex, spicy chili, and hit lots of bumps on the ride home.

Here is Zack creating his masterpiece. Notice the paint splatters on the wall.

I had a dream this morning that it was my due date and I was dropping Zack off at daycare and walking back to my car. I was driving the Nissan Xterra rental car I had after our car accident in May. The cops were surrounding the car and decided I wasn't who they were looking for, but after I opened the door the drug sniffing dog started going after the floor boards, so they arrested me. I told them it was a rental car and that it is my due date but they handcuffed me and took me to jail. I was bawling because I might have the baby in a jail cell and because I didn't have my snoogle pregnancy pillow to sleep with. Then I didn't know who to call with my one phone call because Ryan's cell phone doesn't work in his schools and I don't have my parent's cell number memorized.

Then I woke up. I think this means that I need a long vacation from the apartment business, where I see cops and assumed drugs daily.

Here are hopefully my last belly pictures - 40 weeks. Please send me some labor vibes.

Sent home with no baby

The doctor sent me home after 4 1/2 hours of contractions. I was sooo upset. They gave me an IV of pitosin, but my cervix wouldn't dialate/efface and he didn't want to push it anymore (break my water) and end up with a c-section when there is no immediate danger to the baby. I go back to the doctor on Monday, so unless something happens on its own between now and then it'll be next week at the earliest that she makes her appearance.

I felt like an idiot crying while the doctor said to shut everything off and send me home. I know it makes sense, but I was so looking forward to holding her. Now I have to see if daycare will let Zack come back today or if they've already filled his spot and I have to go back to work today - the worst part of the deal!

Trying Again

The L&D nurse just called and we are going to try again at noon - 45 minutes! AHHH

No room in the inn

7:34 AM - We're going home. My doctor just came in and all 19 rooms plus 1 medical room are full with patients and none have delivered yet. They said that the change in weather and barometric pressure makes pregnant women's water break every time - except mine. They said they'd call around noon and hopefully we can get in this afternoon.

7:27 AM, I am posting from the hospital - no baby yet. No room yet! Labor and delivery is full so we are sitting in the waiting room waiting for a room to open up. The hospital has free Wi-Fi, so we should be able to keep the blog updated as the day goes on, if it ever gets started. I hope I don't have to share a room in recovery, but it doesn't sound good.

Ready or Not

Baby clothes are washed - check
Pre-registered at the hospital - check
The bags are packed - check
Zack is at Grandma and Grandpa's - check
Nursery is ready - not quite
Nerves are flying - double check

I check in tomorrow morning at 7 AM for my induction. I didn't think the day could come fast enough and now I want to go back in time. The suppressed memories of Zack's labor are suddenly coming forefront in my mind. I don't think it has really hit me or Ryan that we will be bringing home a new baby in a couple days.

Today was Zack's last day at daycare for 12 weeks. His teacher and I started tearing up this morning saying our goodbyes and talking about how much she is going to miss him and we'll miss her. They are getting school pictures in one week, so we are invited back for them and then a Halloween party on 10/31. Hopefully we can make both events, depending on how life with a newborn is going. As of now he'll be returning after my maternity leave, but I need to try to find something less expensive with two kids in daycare.

We took Zack to my parent's house tonight and Mom made a yummy last meal for me. I packed Zack's tools and he is ready to help Grandpa Ronnie on his many ongoing projects. I'm sure grandpa will have more help than he could have ever imagined.

When Ryan first painted Addison's nursery he said it looked like a boy's room. I think his mind soon changed when he saw all the pink that soon took over. Sunday we went shopping on a mission to finish the nursery and hide some of the bare walls. We did pretty well and I don't feel as guilty about bringing her home to a half finished nursery. I have some butterflies that need to be hung from the ceiling above the crib. I also need to order some wall letters with her name for above the crib and we need to fill the bookshelf. Zack started adding some of his books to the shelf and then decided he wanted them back.

I love her curtains, but when the sun shines through the window in the evening the room turns neon pink. I feel like we are living next to a strip club or Vegas. I don't know how she is going to sleep in there, especially as she gets older. I may have to get some black out shades or something.

All right, I need to try to get some sleep. I know I'll be up all night though. Please sends lots of quick labor vibes. My next post should be introducing Addison Marie. I can't wait!! Hopefully Ryan will post pictures while I'm in the hospital or maybe we can get internet access in the hospital.

Addison is coming soon!!

I went to the doctor this morning. They did an ultrasound and everything looked fine. I then saw the doctor and he checked my cervix, no dialation. He said he'd be in San Francisco Wed-Fri next week and then the other doctor is on call that weekend, so I asked if there was any chance that I could be induced before he leaves. He looked at the calander and said we could probably do it on Tuesday since the baby is measuring small. He then sent me for a non-stress test and she passed it. The nurse said she called the hospital and I check in at 7 AM on Tuesday, 10/9, for an induction. I feel so much better now that I know when to expect her arrival.

My doctor was out of town for Zack's birth and this time there is a new doctor that just started in August. He is just out of residency and young, so I feel better knowing I'll have my doctor.

I have so much to do before Tuesday, but I can't wait to meet my little girl!

I will have Ryan post pictures as soon as possible!

Maternity Shots

I finally dusted my camera off tonight and had Ryan take some new belly pictures. Zack quickly wanted in on the action, so we did some impromptu maternity shots. I am 38 weeks and 3 days along. Maybe this was a bad idea after comparing the pictures to my last belly shots at 32 weeks and 4 days. It doesn't look like I've made much (if any) progress in 6 weeks, ugh! I go back to the doctor tomorrow morning and have another ultrasound. There is no way that the teenage years can be more stressful than this. I'll keep you posted! Hopefully we'll have a healthy baby very soon.
