The Kids

I took Addison to the ophthalmologist this morning for her annual check up on her cataracts. The doctor said they are minimal, off to the side and not affecting her vision. He had a clear view to the retina and she had no real prescription, about 20/40. She will go back in one year to see if they have moved.

The doctor put pictures on the screen and had her tell him what she saw. This part was always amusing with Zack at her age, so I couldn't wait to see how it went with Addie. It took her a while to figure out what she was supposed to do. He had a picture of a truck and she said ABCD. Coconut tree was also a favorite answer. I think she has been reading too much Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. We finally got some straight answers and moved on to the next test.

Zack was an appointment with his opthalmologist on Wednesday to see how his eyes are healing after the surgery last winter. Thank goodness he knows his letters now.

Here are some keepers from our Christmas card shoot.

Ten on Tuesday. All About Addie

Addison turned 3 years old three weeks ago. I have been a bad blogger, so here is a recap of what Little Miss is up to these days.

1. At 3 years a switch flips over night and suddenly any ounce of baby that was left is suddenly gone. I remember feeling the same way with Zack. They grow up over night.

2. Addison is now speaking in more detail, can hold a conversation, and is full of questions.

3. Her imagination has blossomed over night. I keep hearing her ask for mommy. I respond and then she tells me not you, this mommy and holds up a toy. I have a hard time figuring out when I should respond or not interfere with her playing contently by herself.

4. She idolizes her big brother and repeats everything he says and does, which can be good and bad. Zack is very animated when he talks and he talks A LOT! It is cute to watch Addie mimic him.

5. She LOVES dresses and skirts. When she gets dressed she immediately shakes her hips to see if her clothing will sway. I put her in a pair of jeans a couple days ago and she said, Mommy I can't spin in these jeans. She changes her clothes multiple times a day and always measures the spinability of her outfit and usually changes if doesn't spin enough.

6. She loves Top 40 type music. Some of her favorites are Beyonce - Single Ladies, Katy Perry - California Gurls, and Justin Bieber - Baby. I often find her standing in front of the fireplace, so she can see her reflection, singing, dancing and watching her skirt spin.

9. The day we took the pictures above she said she wanted to do girl stuff, like shopping. We went to Target and she really wanted the pink sparkly shoes, but they didn't have her size so she chose the silver shoes. We then went to the mall and she found the pink glitter belt. She was also on the hunt for a purple dress, but didn't find it. As soon as we got home she undressed and put on her favorite spinning skirt and her accessories. I just love this age.

10. She is over the moon excited for our upcoming trip to Florida and Disney World. I keep telling her that it isn't our turn yet and she wants to know just whose turn it is and why are they taking so long. We also on a daily basis go through all the characters that we'll meet. I can't to see her reaction when she meets Cinderella.

I love you so very much Addie!

Happy Halloween

We had a great Halloween. Zack wanted to be something scary, but not too scary where he'd scary himself. He also wanted a mask, so he decided on a skeleton. Addie wanted to be Abby Cadabby until she saw her bumble bee costume from last year and was set on wearing it for a second year.

My sister Becky and her family came over for our annual trick or treating and pizza party. Last year Addie literally clung to Ryan and I all night because of Cody's scary mask. Luckily she was a lot braver this year and decided to sting him if he went after her.

Ryan has many talents, including pumpkin carving.

Austin - Senior Pictures

My cousin's family came from New Jersey for Purdue's homecoming. While they were in town we met at a park for Austin's senior pictures. We had a beautiful fall day and it was a perfect chance to catch up and to get to know Austin better. Good luck in the rest of your senior year and choosing a college. Enjoy your sneak peek.

Our Nightly Struggle

Addison has always been a pain to get to sleep. She just refuses to shut down. We've been letting her sleep in the hallway because she won't to stay in her bed. We obviously need a new plan of action.

This was taken about one hour after bedtime.

Day on Campus

It only took 21 months, but I have a new blog banner! I finally got the kids to sit together for a picture.

Every morning before daycare I fix Addie's hair. Every evening when we pick her up she has taken out the hair accessory and she has crusty hair. Yesterday the kids both got haircuts and I decided she should go short in hopes that it wouldn't hang in her face as much. I'm in love with the cut and it seems to be helping.

We spent the morning walking around Purdue campus and then had lunch in the student dining hall. You could tell the students weren't used to sharing their hall with five and two year olds. The kids kept getting stepped on, because no one looked down as they walked.

Ryan and I have been getting a lot of comments from strangers lately asking if Zack and Addie are twins. Addison is really close to catching him in height and they are 2 years 5 months apart.

I even got into a picture.

The kids were really excited to see the Boilermaker Special drive right by us and hear the train whistle.

The Money Dig

Every Labor Day Weekend we have a money dig for the kids. It is always fun to watch their faces as they search for the money in the sand. They started off with three circles for different age groups.

In position and waiting for go.

Addie's technique.

Zack found one of six dollar bills in his circle.

Addie has a short attention span and decided that it was more fun to just fill the bag up with sand. There was money in there somewhere.

and more sand.

Zack was proud of his loot.

Courtney's treasure.

and finally Lindsey admiring her booty.

Labor Day Weekend

We spent Labor Day Weekend at the lake and had so much fun. Every holiday weekend we have kids games and the kids look forward to them a lot.

The potato sack race has a HUGE hit with all the kids.

a wetter version of Duck, Duck, Goose

and a wetter version of Hot Potato

More pictures to come. I made up for my lack of pictures all summer in one weekend.

Five on Friday

1. Zack is still loving kindergarten. His only complaint after three days was that he didn't like the sloppy joes. I can't say that I blame him. I was pushing a cold lunch that day. Salisbury steak is one day next week and I always refused to eat it. Ryan loved it, so I don't know which side Zack will choose.

2. I was surprised, but he says he doesn't fall asleep during the half hour rest time at school. It has been really nice this week, because he doesn't fight bedtime at all. Addison is a different story though.

3. Addison's teacher told me this morning that Zack's preschool teacher asked her yesterday how Zack likes kindergarten. She said she really misses him and their morning conversations. Most kids want to play with the toys and their friends in the morning, but not Zack. He would talk her ear off as long as she'd let him.

4. It is really cute to watch Addison while Zack is holding a conversation with someone. She wants to contribute so bad. She will repeat everything he says really softly and make the same mannerisms as he does or lift her dress as she mumbles. She isn't quite as outgoing as he is, but really coming out of her shell.

5. Addison's favorite book is Pinkalicious. She has become quite the girly girl. Loves the color pink, wearing dresses, playing beauty shop and with dolls, wearing mommy's shoes, and wants to go to pink kindergarten so bad.

First Day

I still can't quite believe he is old enough, but today was Zack's first day of kindergarten. He got right on the bus this morning and never looked back. I couldn't wait for the work day to end so I could see how the first day went. He is in after school care at the school and I found him on the playground. He didn't want to leave and he introduced me to his new best friend, Jack. Jack was on the bus with him in the morning and they sat in the same seat. They are also in the same classroom and in after school care together. Zack told me he loves his new best friend, Jack.

He was also excited about rest time. He was forced to take a two hour nap at his preschool and there is only a half hour rest time at kindergarten. He said, Mrs. D walked by me during rest time and saw my eyes were open and she didn't even care! He couldn't believe that he didn't have to keep his eyes closed for two hours and try to sleep.

He is wearing a yellow tag with his name, teacher's name, and bus parking spot. He claims he doesn't need to wear it tomorrow because Jack will help him get to class. Jack is also in kindergarten, so I'm not too sure about his abilities. Hopefully I can at least talk him into sticking it on his backpack.

So, the first day was a complete success. I hope he continues to make friends and love school. I'm so proud of you Zackers!!
